Nurofen for Children can be used to ease many different kinds of pain and symptoms in your child. Some of the most popular reasons why parents choose to give their children this product include:

How will this product help to ease my child’s pain and fever?

Nurofen for Children contains the active ingredient ibuprofen, which is a common painkiller that many people use every day to manage pain. Ibuprofen is part of a group of medicines known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), which not only relieve pain but can help to ease swelling and inflammation and bring down a high temperature or fever.

How to take Nurofen for Children capsules

To take your Nurofen for Children capsules, simply put them into your mouth, chew, and swallow. For children aged between 7 – 9, take 2 capsules for each dose. For children aged 10 – 12, take 3 capsules with each dose. Take 1 dose up to 3 times a day, as needed, leaving at least 6 hours between each dosage. Do not take more Nurofen for Children than recommended.

When should Nurofen for Children not be used?

Nurofen for Children capsules are not suitable for children under the age of 7. Do not take this product if you or your child are allergic to ibuprofen, peanuts, soya, or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not use Nurofen for Children capsules if you or your child:

• Have ever had a reaction after taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or any other NSAID medicines, e.g. asthma, runny nose, rash, swelling of face, tongue, lips, or throat
• Are allergic to peanuts or soya, as this product contains soya lecithin
• Have or have had more than 2 episodes of a stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding
• Have severe heart, kidney, or liver failure

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you or your child:

• Have or have had high blood pressure, heart problems, or a stroke
• Have a condition which may put you at risk of heart problems, e.g. diabetes, high cholesterol
• Have asthma or any allergic disease of the lungs
• Have or have had liver, kidney, or bowel problems
• Are dehydrated
• Have SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)
• Have a hereditary blood formation disorder
• Suffer from serious skin reactions, e.g. exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis
• Suffer from chronic inflammatory bowel disease, e.g. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
• Have just had major surgery
• Have chicken pox

Nurofen for Children should not be taken at the same time as some medications, as they can interact. Does this product have any side effects?

Like all medicines, Nurofen for Children can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include:

• Blood in the stools, black tarry stools, vomiting blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds
• Unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, skin rash, itching or bruising, light-headedness, racing heart, fluid retention
• Stiff neck, nausea, headache, vomiting, fever and disorientation
• Swelling of the face
• Unexplained stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, nausea, vomiting
• Yellowing of the eyes and/or skin (jaundice), pale stools and dark urine
• Severe sore throat with high fever
• Unexplained bruising, tiredness, getting more infections such as colds than usual
• Headache
• Diarrhoea, wind, vomiting, constipation
• Kidney and liver problems
• Stroke or heart problems (unlikely at the dose level given to children)
• Worsening of colitis or Crohn’s disease
• High blood pressure

If you or your child experience these or any other side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away.
