Hydrocortisone 1% w/w cream is a topical cream that provides fast and effective relief from itching.
It is commonly used for sufferers of eczema, dermatitis, itchy insect bites and other common skin conditions.
Hydrocortisone belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. They work by calming down the inflammation that occurs during certain skin conditions or reactions.
Always use Hydrocortisone 1% cream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / pharmacist has told you.
For application to the skin, gently apply a thin layer 2-3 times per day.
Like all medicines, Hydrocortisone 1% cream may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
If the product is used continuously for a prolonged period of time, a withdrawal reaction can occur upon stopping treatment. This can include the following symptoms:

This product is flammable. Do not use a naked flame near it. Make sure you are washing your bedding and clothing frequently to prevent the materials from becoming flammable.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any new products.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
