Emulsiderm Emollient is a bath additive that works to provide relief for the effects of dry skin. It contains 3 active ingredients that work to provide relief for dry and irritated skin. These are:
Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate are emollients that will soften and moisturise the skin. It also protects from dry skin returning. The other ingredient, benzalkonium, is known as an antimicrobial chemical. This works by combating the bacteria on the skin and reduce infection caused by scratching the skin.
A skin infection is most likely to be caused by damaged skin as a result of atopic eczema, which itself is caused by an allergic reaction. A skin infection is the result of bacteria getting into cracked or broken skin and causing symptoms which include:
Other symptoms can be that eczema has gotten worse and that other treatments that are used stopped working.
This bath additive can be used by adults and children, including babies. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the additive. You can use this treatment when using other forms of medication.
There is no evidence of any problems when using this treatment when pregnant or breastfeeding. Though if you are unsure, then consult a medical professional for advice before using.
Use up to 2 capfuls of this solution and pour into the bath. Get into the bath and soak the affected areas of the skin with the solution. Soak for 5-10 minutes and then get out of the bath. Take care when getting out of the bath, as the solution can make the bath slippery. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel, but do not rub on the skin as it can cause irritation.
There is a chance of side effects but it is rare. Potential side effects include a skin reaction including redness and itching. If you notice any side effect, then stop using this bath additive and speak to a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
