Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets are used to treat hay fever symptoms and other allergies.

How Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets work
Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets contain the active ingredient chlorphenamine maleate, which belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.
Antihistamines block the substance histamine, which the body creates when you come into contact with a substance you are allergic to.
Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets are a drowsy antihistamine.

Directions
Always take Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / pharmacist has told you.
Swallow the tablets whole with water.
Children aged between 6-12 years old: 2mg/half a tablet should be taken every 4-6 hours. No more than 12mg should be taken daily.
Children over 12 years old and adults: 4mg/1 tablet should be taken every 4-6 hours. No more than 24mg should be taken daily.

Side effects
Like all medicines, Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
Drowsiness
Tiredness
Blurred vision
Dizziness
Headaches
Difficulty concentrating
Lack of coordination
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using theMHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Warnings
Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
You have brain damage
You have epilepsy
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
You have raised pressure inside your eyes, including glaucoma
You have an enlarged prostate
You have an overactive thyroid
You have very high blood pressure
You have liver disease
You have heart disease
You have asthma, bronchitis or bronchiectasis
These tablets contain lactose. If you are intolerant to certain sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets also contain the colouring agent Sunset Yellow (E110). This colouring agent may cause allergic reactions.
Do not give these tablets to someone who is in a coma.

Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
Do not take Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the last 14 days.
You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication:
Phenytoin for epilepsy
Medication used to treat anxiety
Sedatives
Anticholinergic drugs e.g. atropine or hyoscine
Betahistine used to treat vertigo and hearing disturbances
Lopinavir

Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for children under 6 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.

Alcohol
Do not drink alcohol whilst you are taking this medication, as it may increase the sedative effects of alcohol.

Driving and operating machinery
Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablets may cause drowsiness and blurred vision. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.

Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
